Material compatibility (Continuous exposure)

Novec™ 7100 fluid is compatible with most metals and hard polymers. Soft and elastomeric materials should be limited to compounds containing the least amount of extractable plasticiser.

Compatibility with materials (Non-continuous exposure)

Short-term testing of Novec™ 7100 fluid demonstrates compatibility, after one hour of exposure to boiling temperature, with a wide range of metals, plastics and elastomers, similar to the performance of perfluorinated fluids. Good short-term compatibility with particularly sensitive plastics such as polycarbonate and PMMA indicates its usefulness in cleaning assemblies containing many composite materials. Like most fluorinated liquids, Novec™ 7100 fluid absorbs into fluorinated plastics and elastomers during longer exposures.

Description

3M™ Novec™ Technical Fluid 7100 maintains one of the best low toxicity profiles among CFC replacement materials. Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) are not destroyed in the lower atmosphere and are responsible for damage to the ozone layer (they are used as refrigerants and cleaning agents), making Technical Fluid 7100 a better environmentally friendly alternative. The low surface tension together with the high boiling point makes it excellent for use as a vapour degreaser or as a cosolvent parts cleaner.
