3M Cooling Film
Developed to drastically reduce solar heat gain on external roofs, the innovative 3M™ Cooling Film is a technical passive cooling film that optimises energy efficiency and interior comfort without requiring a power supply. This advanced coating is ideal for transport fleets, caravans and railway carriages, enabling a substantial reduction in reliance on conventional air conditioning, protecting sensitive components and reducing emissions associated with fuel consumption on long journeys.
Key Characteristics
- Passive Cooling Technology: Deflects 85 per cent of solar radiation and has an outward thermal radiation rate of over 91 per cent.
- Exceptional Thermal Mitigation: Keeps vehicle roofs up to 16.6 °C cooler, lowering the temperature inside the cargo compartments by up to 5.5 °C.
- Structural Strength and Durability: A rigid, durable protective coating designed to withstand harsh environments. It comes with a 5-year global warranty.
- Ease of Installation: Advanced 3M™ Comply™ and 3M™ Controltac™ adhesives allow for quick and flexible application, similar to that of conventional signage graphics.
Applications of 3M Cooling Film
This thermal management material is specifically designed for installation on the roofs of transport fleets and mobile infrastructure:
- Rail Transport: Used in passenger and freight train carriages, underground trains and metropolitan rail services to maintain thermal stability within the passenger compartments.
- Commercial Fleets: Applied to vans and buses to reduce the cooling load on the engine or batteries, thereby reducing overall fuel consumption.
- Sensitive Cargo Logistics: Used in refrigerated trailers or box vans to mitigate exposure to direct heat, protecting goods that are highly vulnerable to temperature fluctuations during long journeys.
