3M™ Electrical Insulation Tapes
In the professional electrical sector, 3M insulating tapes are synonymous with reliability, performance and durability. Electricians, maintenance companies and installers alike value this comprehensive range, which includes everything from the classic Scotch Super vinyl tapes to specialised self-fusing rubber tapes, mastic sealing tapes and the cost-effective options in the Temflex range. This variety makes it possible to tackle everything from day-to-day jobs to demanding outdoor applications, high-voltage work or damp environments.
Detailed Applications for 3M™ Electrical Insulation Tapes
Scotch® Vinyl Tapes
- Super 33+ is the most versatile vinyl tape in the professional range. It is mainly used as primary insulation for cable splices and joints up to 600 volts. It excels in repairs to the outer sheath of cables, protection against moisture in outdoor environments, and as a final layer of mechanical protection. It is ideal for installations in variable weather conditions (cold and hot), cable bundling, and both indoor and outdoor work. Its excellent conformability makes it perfect for curves and uneven surfaces.

- As Super 88 is thicker, it offers superior mechanical protection. It is recommended for industrial environments subject to vibration, friction or impact. It is used as a reinforced outer layer over joints, for repairing cable sheaths exposed to wear and tear, and in applications where greater durability is required. It is commonly found in machinery, electrical panels and high-traffic areas.

- The Scotch® 35 range of tapes is designed for colour-coding and identifying motor cables, circuits in electrical panels and pipework. In addition to marking, it provides secondary insulation. Its colours are resistant to fading in sunlight, making it suitable for visible installations both indoors and in sheltered outdoor areas.

- Scotch® 22 tape is the thickest and most abrasion-resistant of the range. It is used in heavy-duty applications: for extreme mechanical protection of cables, repairs in high-friction areas, and as reinforcement in installations exposed to intense physical wear and tear. Ideal for demanding industrial environments where maximum durability is required.

Scotch® Self-Fusing Electrical Tapes
- Scotch® 23 self-fusing tape is made from EPR rubber and is designed for medium- and high-voltage joints. It is used for cable joints and terminations up to 69 kV, for repairing dielectric insulation and for sealing against moisture. The protective paper must be removed during application. Ideal for underground, overhead or damp conditions.

- The Scotch® 130C linerless rubber splicing tape is similar to the 23 but without a backing paper, making for a quicker and cleaner application. It is used for high-voltage joints and terminations (up to 69 kV), particularly where improved heat dissipation is required. It is highly valued for quick repairs and in environments where speed of installation is important.

Self-bonding Electrical Tape
- Scotch® 2228 conformable mastic tape is ideal for moisture sealing. It is used on electrical connections up to 1000 volts (with a top coat), for sealing service drop connections, underground joints, protecting terminals and filling uneven surfaces. It offers excellent adhesion to metals, rubbers and cable sheaths.

- Scotch-Seal™ 2229 mastic tape is a thicker version. It is used when greater filling or cushioning is required for uneven joints, or when extra protection is needed for large joints or in particularly demanding environments (whether buried or exposed).

Temflex™ PVC Electrical Tapes
- The cost-effective Temflex™ 165 tape is ideal for secondary insulation, cable bundling, basic labelling and non-critical repairs in indoor or sheltered outdoor environments. A good choice for everyday tasks where extreme performance is not required.
- Temflex™ 175 performs better at low temperatures than the 165. It is used for general insulation, cable protection and industrial maintenance where greater durability and flexibility are required at low temperatures.
