3M™ Tissue Tapes

3M™ Tissue Tapes for LSE and HSE Materials – Low VOC

3M™ Tissue Tapes

3M™ double-sided tissue tapes: Ideal for a multitude of connections in automotive, household appliances, construction and electronics.

Our revolutionary high-tack multi-purpose tapes are engineered for durable, high-performance bonding. They connect a variety of materials, including foam, fabric, plastics, metals, corrugated cardboard and more. Manufactured through a solvent-free adhesive coating process, which significantly decreases emissions in contrast to the solvent-based adhesive coating method.‘’

What does low VOC mean?

Solvent adhesive coating process

3M™ Tissue Tapes

In a solvent-based adhesive coating process, raw materials (blue) are dissolved and/or suspended in solvents (red) to create an adhesive mixture (purple) which is then coated onto a substrate (release liner or backing). The solvents are then evaporated from the coated adhesive mixture (red waves) by a drying process, resulting in a pressure-sensitive adhesive tape. Solvent vapours (red waves) are likely to be hazardous air pollutants (HAPS) or volatile organic compounds (VOCS) and cannot be emitted into the atmosphere*.

Solvent vapours are normally managed by a thermal oxidiser which converts the solvent vapours into CO2 and water through combustion. Both the drying and thermal oxidation processes consume a significant amount of energy as well as emitting CO2 into the atmosphere, resulting in higher CO2 equivalents per square metre of tape than 3M’s patented solvent-free adhesive coating process.

Solvent-free adhesive coating process

3M™ Tissue Tapes

raw materials (dark blue) are combined to create a solvent-free adhesive mixture (dark blue) that is coated onto the substrate (backing). The coated substrate is then subjected to a proprietary process to transform the adhesive into a pressure-sensitive adhesive tape (light blue). As there are no solvents involved, this process uses less energy and has significantly lower CO2 equivalents per square metre than the construction of comparable products made with a solvent-based adhesive coating process.

Main features of 3M™ Tissue Tapes.

Tapes 56212 and 56215 for general adhesion

These heavy-duty, general purpose tissue tapes ensure durable and versatile bonds. Translucent and versatile, these tapes are the ideal solution for woven applications, metals, packaging materials, high surface energy substrates and foams.

  • Conformable is easily applied and adheres to curved and irregular surfaces.
  • Exceptional fixation at low temperatures.
  • Reusable resists fabric tearing when peeled or removed.
  • Provides remarkable clarity compared to typical 3M DCTTs.
  • 56212 thickness 120 microns.
  • 56215 thickness 150 microns.

Tapes 56412 and 56415 for LSE material adhesion

These high tack multi-purpose tissue tapes are designed for high performance bonding to LSE and difficult adhesion applications.

  • Adheres well to a wide variety of plastics.
  • Conformable is easily applied and adheres to curved and irregular surfaces.
  • Adheres exceptionally well at low temperatures.
  • Reusable resists fabric tearing when peeled or removed.
  • Provides remarkable clarity compared to typical 3M DCTTs.
